Creative little hands, a solar system to explore

A sheet of paper, colourful modelling clay and plenty of curiosity: a solar system activity brings learning to life at myKiwi in Kajang.

Learning can begin with a question, a new idea or something a child wants to make. In this myKiwi activity, children explore the solar system by creating their own planet models — connecting a classroom topic with a practical, creative experience.

These three moments from our centre show the process: carefully assembling a model, looking closely at the finished planets and proudly sharing a piece of work. There is room to notice the effort behind each small step, as well as the final result.

More than making a model

A hands-on science activity gives children different ways to engage with a topic. Alongside learning about the planets, the process creates opportunities to practise everyday learning skills.

  1. Curiosity and observation

Looking at the planets and their labels gives children a starting point for questions. Which planet can you recognise? What would you like to find out next?

  2. Creativity and careful hands

Shaping colourful pieces and placing them on paper combines imagination with fine hand movements. Children can make choices and see their ideas take shape.

  3. Concentration and patience

A model comes together one piece at a time. Slowing down, checking a position and trying again are useful parts of the learning process.

  4. Confidence in sharing

Showing a finished piece gives children something concrete to talk about. Explaining one planet or a favourite part of the activity is a small, manageable way to practise speaking.

A familiar science topic becomes something children can make

The colourful planets, drawn paths and handwritten labels turn an idea from a page into a model children can examine. This is a creative classroom craft, not a scale diagram: its colours, planet sizes and distances are for the activity. A model can become the beginning of a conversation and a reason to keep exploring.

A little project, a moment of pride

Holding up a completed project is a chance to celebrate care, patience and a willingness to try. At myKiwi, we want children to enjoy learning and feel comfortable sharing what they have made. Encouragement can focus on something specific: a carefully placed planet, a label they worked on or an idea they can explain.

Keep the curiosity going at home

Parents do not need to recreate a whole lesson. A few relaxed questions can help a child share the experience:

  • Ask your child to show you a favourite planet on the model and explain why they chose it.
  • Invite them to describe how they made the project: what came first, and which part needed patience?
  • Look through an age-appropriate space book together and find one thing you would both like to learn more about.
  • Praise the effort and care you notice, and leave room for questions instead of expecting every answer to be correct.
